The chin, like any other part of the face, plays an important role in the beauty and harmony of the overall appearance of each person. A regular face cannot be conceived without complete harmony between the cheekbones, nose, lips and chin. A disproportionate chin, therefore more protruding or receding compared to the lips and nose, creates a deformation of the face giving it an unpleasant appearance. These irregularities can be corrected with the surgical procedure of mentoplasty, which consists of correcting the elongated chin, shortening the bony part of its tip or lengthening the short chin, positioning a small silicone prosthesis. The procedure is performed with an incision inside the lower lip, and therefore there are no visible signs. Together with rhinoplasty and in some cases facial lipofilling, it is part of that intervention commonly called profiloplasty, which is able to rebalance all the components of the face, significantly modifying the patient's appearance.
What should we know about the procedure?
- Before the procedure, pre-operative tests are performed (blood count and blood group, coagulation tests, biochemical, viral, pregnancy and urine tests, visit with the cardiologist and ECG, visit with the anesthetist, etc.).
- Starmed applies totally intravenous general anesthesia, which keeps blood pressure low, reduces the risk of bleeding and hematomas, minimizes the risk of nausea and vomiting and, for this type of surgery, is safer and more comfortable for the patient, as well as allowing the surgeon to work in optimal conditions.
- The surgery is performed with an incision on the inside of the lower lip and without external scars.
- The average duration is 30 – 60 minutes.
- One night’s hospital stay in the clinic.
- Mild and normally tolerable pain.
- Hematomas and edema on the chin that gradually disappear within 5 – 10 days.
- Rapid recovery period, with gradual improvement in the appearance of the chin, the result is considered definitive 3 – 4 months after the operation.
